@RaginCajunsSB Prevails in Marathon Series Opener With ULM

LAFAYETTE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball claimed a 1-0 win over ULM in a 14-inning marathon in the opening game of Senior Weekend on Friday at Lamson Park.
Senior Brittany Rodriguez provided the winning run when she singled back up the middle to score Casidy Chaumont who reached on an error to start the 14th inning and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by senior Kalyn Watts.
Summer Ellyson went the distance in the circle for Louisiana (34-13, 19-6 Sun Belt). She scattered five hits and struck out 18 batters in her career-long outing.
UP NEXT
No. 21 Louisiana and ULM (24-26, 10-15 Sun Belt) wrap up the Sun Belt series and the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The games will air on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM and be televised on Cox Sports Television.
The 2018 senior class will be honored in a 12:15 p.m. ceremony. Gates will open at 11:45 a.m. to allow fans time to get to their seats.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Alissa Dalton turned in a game-high three hits to pace an 11-hit attack by Louisiana. It was her team-leading 19th multiple-hit game.
Watts executed a sacrifice bunt for the second straight game. She also turned a key double play in the 10th inning that erased a leadoff single by the Warhawks.
Ellyson stranded a Warhawks base runner at third base in the third and fourth inning. In the 13th inning she induced a double-play ball which erased yet another ULM leadoff single and needed just three pitches to retire the visitors in order in the 14th inning.
NOTEWORTHY
- Summer Ellyson's 18 strikeouts marked her second-highest total of the season, just two shy of her school-record 20 strikeouts in a seven-inning game vs. Evansville on Feb. 9.
- Summer Ellyson turned in her 23rd start out of 26 total with three earned runs or fewer allowed and collected her fourth complete game shutout.
- Brittany Rodriguez's game-winning single in the 14th inning snapped an 0-for-15 streak that dated back to last weekend's UTA series.
- Alissa Dalton collected her ninth game with three-plus hits and upped her team-leading total to 64 which ranks Top 5 in the Sun Belt Confernece.
- Louisiana played its 10th extra innings game of the season. It was the sixth contest that lasted 11 innings or more.
- The Ragin' Cajuns are now 7-3 in extra inning games. The squad improved to 15-8 in games decided by two runs or less.
- Louisiana extended its series win streak over ULM, which dates back to the 2012 season, to 19 games.
