I-10 rivals to meet for 39th time on gridiron; Cajuns claimed 30-22 win in 2016 game
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and McNeese State University announced on Thursday a non-conference football game between the schools scheduled for Sept. 5, 2020 at Cajun Field.
The meeting will be the 39th between the schools with Louisiana claiming a 30-22 victory in the last contest on Sept. 10, 2016 at Cajun Field. The schools, separated by 77 miles, met annually on the gridiron from 1951-86 when both were members of the Gulf States Conference (1951-70) and the Southland Conference (1971-81).
The game against McNeese State, a Division I (FCS) member of the Southland Conference, is one of three non-conference game scheduled for Louisiana joining scheduled contests at FBS Independent New Mexico State (Oct. 24) and SEC opponent Missouri (Nov. 21).
Louisiana, under first-year head coach Billy Napier, will officially open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 against Grambling at Cajun Field before opening Sun Belt Conference play at home on Sept. 22 against Coastal Carolina. The Ragin' Cajuns will also host New Mexico State (Oct. 13) in the annual Homecoming game, Arkansas State (Oct. 27), Georgia State (Nov. 10) and South Alabama (Nov. 17).
Season ticket sales for the 2018 season begin on Friday (June 1). Fans can purchase tickets through the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Ticket Office at the Cajundome or on-line at RaginCajuns.com.
