Five Set To Compete For @RaginCajunsTRK At NCAA Regionals

TAMPA, Fla. – Five members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will look to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships when it opens competition on Thursday at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary at the USF Track and Field Stadium.

With forecasted weather in the Tampa area, many of the events in the three-day meet have adjusted starting times. Louisiana will begin competition on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., with Kyle Baudoin participating in the men's pole vault with MacKenzie Marze competing in the women's javelin at 12:30 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns will close out the meet on Saturday with women's triple jumper Taylor Walker competing at 11:30 a.m., with men's javelin throwers Bartul Basic and Hunter Stelly scheduled to compete at 12:30 p.m.

The top 12 qualifiers out of the NCAA East Regional will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.

Basic, ranked No. 4 on the NCAA East Preliminary List and No. 15 nationally, posted the third-best throw in school history (232-9) in his season debut at the Louisiana Classics on March 16 before finishing second overall at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships.

Stelly, who finished fourth at the SBC Outdoor Championships, posted a personal-best throw of 211-9 at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational in March to rank No. 44 among NCAA East Regional javelin throwers.

Baudoin, ranked No. 32 on the NCAA East Preliminary List, cleared a season-best 16-11 ½ at the Southern Miss Open on April 28 and cleared 17-0 during Louisiana's indoor season to finish third at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.

Walker posted the 44th-best mark in the women's triple jump in the NCAA East Region this season after her mark of 41-5 ¼ at the Sun Belt Conference Championships earned her a third-place finish and all-conference honors.

Marze, a Teurlings Catholic product, launched a throw of 150-11 – the third-best mark in the women's javelin in school history – at the Louisiana Classics on March 17. The freshman, ranked No. 40 in the NCAA East Region, added throws of 149-2 at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational and 148-8 at the LSU Alumni Gold.
