@RaginCajunsSB Sends Baton Rouge Regional to Winner-Take-All Scenario

5/20/2018 5:14:00 PM | Softball

No. 21 Louisiana walks off in 10th inning of opening game of championship round with clutch hit from Alissa Dalton

BATON ROUGE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball forced the winner-take-all contest in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with a 5-4 (10 inn.) win over 11th-ranked Louisiana State at Tiger Park.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Tigers returned to the field at 4:13 p.m. for the opportunity to advance to meet Florida State in the NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional. Fans can hear the game on 1420-AM or view the action live on ESPN3.

Alissa Dalton fired a single back up the middle to plate Aeriyl Mass with the game-winning run and complete the Ragin' Cajuns comeback from an earlier 4-0 deficit.

Louisiana (41-15) sent the contest into extra innings with a two-out rally in the sixth inning.

Lexie Comeaux singled home Kelli Martinez to get Louisiana on the board. Carrie Boswell then drew a walk off of LSU starter Carley Hoover to load the bases. Kourtney Gremillion followed with a loop double down the left field line off of reliever Allie Walljasper that cleared the bases and forged a 4-all tie.

Dalton's game-winning hit, her first of the contest in five trips to the plate, made a winner out of Summer Ellyson (23-9) who re-entered the game in extra innings and shutout the Tigers (43-15) for three innings.

Key to Louisiana's triumph was another solid relief effort from senior pitcher Kylee Jo Trahan. A day after tossing four scoreless frames vs. Fordham, Trahan took over in the fifth inning and limited LSU to a single run to bridge the gap to Ellyson's game-ending jaunt.

The Tigers snapped a pitcher's duel between Ellyson and Hoover with a three-run fourth inning that was capped by a two-run home run from Michaela Schlattman. The hosts held the advantage until the four-run rally by the Ragin' Cajuns in the sixth inning.
