@RaginCajunsSB Rallies, Walks Off With Win in Sun Belt Tourney Opener

5/10/2018 3:57:00 PM | Softball

LAFAYETTE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball captured a 2-1 walk-off win over Georgia State on Thursday to advance in the winner's bracket of the Sun Belt Softball Tournament at Lamson Park.

Louisiana (37-13) snapped a 1-all tie after Kelli Martinez and Kara Gremillion ignited a two-out rally in the seventh inning with back-to-back singles. Martinez scored on the very next play when the Panthers (31-23) attempted a force out at second, but Gremillion slid into the bag before the throw to keep the inning alive.

It was the fourth walk-off win of the season and 13th come-from-behind win for the Ragin' Cajuns. Louisiana erased a 1-0 deficit in the sixth inning when Jolie Readeaux delivered a pinch-hit RBI single which plated Martinez.

Martinez reached in all four of her plate appearances – walked twice, singled twice – and scored both of Louisiana's runs.

Readeaux and Dalton each accounted for an RBI. For Readeaux it was her third run-scoring pinch hit at bat of the season while Dalton delivered her first walk-off winner.

Summer Ellyson (20-7, 1.41 ERA) scattered six hits over her seven innings in the circle to reach the 20-win plateau for the first time in her career.

Casidy Chaumont catch of a line drive for a double play after a leadoff double by Georgia State in the sixth inning was key to holding the Cajuns deficit at one run.
