Ragin' Cajuns, Mavs Each Claim Win Saturday in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – 22nd-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball and UTA split a doubleheader as a Sun Belt Conference series began Saturday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks used a walk-off homer to slip by the Ragin' Cajuns 4-3 in the opener. Louisiana (32-13, 17-6 Sun Belt) rode the momentum of a four-run third inning to capture a 6-1 triumph in Game 2.

THE BASICS OF GAME 1
Alissa Dalton collected a game-high three RBI, all coming on a home run in the third inning that snapped a scoreless tie.
The Mavericks took advantage of a throwing error with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third to scratch two unearned runs and trim the Louisiana lead to 3-2.
Summer Ellyson ended the third with a strikeout to leave the bases loaded and later worked out of a first and third jam with no outs to carry the lead into the seventh inning.
UTA's Randi Phillips induced a pair of ground ball outs after two were aboard with one out in the seventh inning to prevent the visitors from adding insurance. In the bottom half, Bri Burchianti gave the hosts their first lead and the triumph with a two-run, walk-off homer to left field.
THE BASICS OF GAME 2
Carrie Boswell and Kourtney Gremillion both posted two-hit games and were joined by Casidy Chaumont and Dalton in driving in a run.
Casey Dixon scattered five hits, struck out four and allowed a single run in seven innings of work.
Chaumont charged the four-run third inning by leading off with a solo home run. A run scored on an errant throw with two outs, then Gremillion and Boswell took advantage of the extended inning with RBI singles that stretched the Ragin' Cajuns lead to 4-0.
A hustle play from Dalton resulted in an infield single with two outs in the fourth inning, leading to two additional runs that stretched the lead to 6-0.
A leadoff triple in the bottom of the fourth led to the Mavericks lone run. Dixon yielded just one more hit the rest of the way to seal the game.
NOTEWORTHY
- Alissa Dalton's four RBI in the doubleheader pushed her season total to a team-leading 27 RBI.
- With a base hit in both games, Alissa Dalton has now hit safely in 17 of the past 18 games.
- Casidy Chaumont's home run in Game 2 moved her into the team lead with five home runs. It was her first home run since March 11 at Coastal Carolina.
- Casey Dixon posted her second complete game victory in Sun Belt play (March 11 at Coastal Carolina).
- Casey Dixon has allowed just one earned run in her last four appearances, a span of 13 innings.
- For the 21st time in 24 games started, Summer Ellyson yielded three earned runs or fewer. She picked up her 18th appearance with five-plus strikeouts.
