LAFAYETTE – 20th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball posted single runs in its first thee at bats and Summer Ellyson made it stand in a 3-2 win over South Alabama which completed a Sun Belt series sweep at Lamson Park.
Beth Ashley and sisters Kara and Kourtney Gremillion each drove home a run as Louisiana (23-7, 10-2 Sun Belt) built a three-run edge after three complete innings.
Ellyson, who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, re-entered with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and worked out of the jam with the lead intact, locking up her third win of the series.
The Ragin' Cajuns entered the day with the series victory in hand - the 41st consecutive SBC series win dating back to March 2013 - after a 7-1, 5-4 (8 inn.) doubleheader sweep of South Alabama (18-17, 5-6 Sun Belt) on Good Friday.
Louisiana stretched its win streak at Lamson Park to nine games and increased its series win streak over South Alabama to the same amount.

No. 20 Louisiana opens a six-game road trip on Wednesday, April 4 in a Top 25 matchup with No. 11 Florida State in Tallahassee. The Ragin' Cajuns and Seminoles are scheduled to play a 3 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader.
Following the FSU twinbill, the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Atlanta for a Sun Belt Conference series at Georgia State set for April 7-8.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Of the 11 hits Louisiana collected on the day, the trio of Kara Gremillion (2-for-4, RBI), Kelli Martinez (2-for-3, run) and Brittany Rodriguez (2-for-4, run) each delivered two hits.
Ashley's RBI triple which opened the scoring in the first inning increased her season total to a team-leading 19 RBI.
Casidy Chaumont and Kara Gremillion delivered doubles which upped the Ragin' Cajuns extra base hits total in the series to eight.
Ellyson wound up working 6-2/3 innings of one-hit softball and struck out six. None of the Jaguars baserunners she was responsible for moved past second base and she held USA hitless in two-out situations and did not allow a leadoff batter to reach.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As she did in Game 1 of the series, Ashley opened the scoring with a two-out hit in the first inning. Her triple plated Rodriguez who executed a bunt single off the first pitch USA's Alexis Reid threw.
Louisiana kept the pressure on Reid in the second inning, registering four consecutive hits to start the frame capped off by Kara Gremillion's RBI double. The Cajuns closed the scoring and chased Reid in the third inning after Chaumont doubled and Kourtney Gremillion singled her home the next at bat.
Devin Brown entered in relief for the Jaguars and held the Ragin' Cajuns in check. USA made a push in the sixth inning when with one out back-to-back singles and a walk placed Casey Dixon in a bases-loaded jam.
After a walk brought home a run cutting the Cajuns lead to 3-1, Ellyson induced a sacrifice fly and struck out Kamdyn Kvistad to end the threat. Brown prevented Louisiana from adding insurance in the bottom of the sixth when she caught a line drive with the bases loaded to end the inning.
