REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: On Nov. 19, Louisiana got its first home win of the season when the Ragin' Cajuns took down Jackson State, 68-61. During the final quarter, the Ragin' Cajuns were forced to hold off a late charge from Jackson State, with the Tigers cutting deeply into Louisiana's lead down the final stretch of the game.
With 36 seconds left, Jackson State hit a basket to get within three points of Louisiana. It was at that point that head coach Garry Brodhead called his final timeout and drew up a play for sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet. Coming out of the timeout, and off the in-bound pass, sophomore guard Skyler Goodwin delivered a perfect bounce pass to Docuet who turned and hit the layup which sealed the 68-61 win for Louisiana.
During the game, the Ragin' Cajuns were once again led by Doucet who finished with another double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jomyra Mathis added a double-double of her own, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, giving Louisiana back-to-back games with a double-double, both coming from Doucet and Mathis.
As a team, Louisiana shot 48 percent from the field, and they were 42 percent from beyond the arc. At the line the Ragin' Cajuns shot 68 percent and it helped them seal the win down the stretch. Defensively Louisiana held Jackson State to 37 percent shooting from the field, and they closed out shooters on the perimeter well all night, holding the Tigers to 13 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
DOUCET HAS BEEN DOMINATE: For the fourth straight game, Doucet recorded a double-double, grabbing 14 points and 12 rebounds in Louisiana's 68-61 win over Jackson State (Nov. 19). It has been a dominating performance by Doucet, and over the first four games Doucet has grabbed 60 rebounds (15.0 rpg.) and scored 82 points (20.5 ppg.). Both of those numbers rank Doucet at the top of the Sun Belt Conference, and she ranks fourth in the country in rebounds per game.
When looking deeper into Doucet's double-double numbers, she really begins to shine and show how her start has put her among the best in the country. Over the first two weeks of the season, nine women have recorded four double-doubles, the most in the country, but what separates Doucet is that only six of those nine women, including Doucet, have recorded four double-doubles in each of the four games they have played in.
LOUISIANA IS DOUBLE-DOUBLE HAPPY: During the game against Jackson State, Doucet and Mathis each recorded a double-double in the second straight game. It was Doucet's sixth career double-double and for Mathis it was her second career double-double after getting the first of her career against Dillard on Nov. 14.
FRESHMEN GETTING THE NOD: Freshmen guard Diamond Morrison and forward Jazmyn Womack each made their first career starts against Jackson State (Nov. 19). Morrison got the start at the point guard position while Womack started down at the power forward position.
Morrison came out on fire and finished the game with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting. While Womack shower her range, hitting the first three-pointer of her career, finishing 3-for-6 from the field scoring seven points in the game.
WHAT THE TIGERS BRING: Auburn's previous game, the Preseason WNIT semifinal, the Tigers dropped their first game of the season, losing a close match with Iowa State, 67-64. Entering the game against Louisiana, the Tigers are scoring 80.0 points per game, and are shooting the basketball at a clip of 46 percent.
In the national rankings Auburn's numbers puts the Tigers at 47th in scoring offense and 57th in field-goal percentage. When looking at the defensive numbers, Auburn is allowing 62.5 points per game, but they are holding teams to 35 percent field-goal percentage. Auburn's defensive numbers are sitting at 161st in scoring defense, but they rank in the Top-80 in field-goal percentage defense coming in ranked 76th.
All five of Auburn's starters are scoring in double-figures, with Janiah McKay leading the way averaging 15.8 points per game. McKay also leads the Tigers in assists, with 26 total assists averaging 6.5 assists per game.
Unique Thompson is averaging a double-double through the first four games of the season, scoring 14.5 points per game and averaging a team-high 14.0 rebounds per game. Thompson is shooting a team-high 56 percent from the field.
