Aggies to visit Cajun Field in 2018; Cajuns to travel to Las Cruces in 2019
LAFAYETTE – Officials from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and New Mexico State University announced a two-game series in football that will be played between the schools during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
The series, which has been played each season since 2013, will continue when New Mexico State, currently a member of the Sun Belt Conference, becomes an FBS Independent beginning in 2018. Louisiana will host NM State on either Sept. 8 or Oct. 6, 2018 at Cajun Field with the Ragin' Cajuns facing the Aggies in Las Cruces, N.M., on Nov. 16, 2019.
"We are excited to be able to continue a football series with New Mexico State beginning in the 2018 season," Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Jessica Leger said. "Scheduling non-conference home-and-home series against schools in the Group of 5 is an important priority for our football program. We have enjoyed our football series with New Mexico State and we look forward to continuing that tradition in the future."
Louisiana leads the all-time series against NM State, 6-5, with the Aggies claiming the last two meetings overall. The Ragin' Cajuns will host NM State during the 2017 season as part of the Sun Belt Conference schedule.
The 2018 non-conference schedule for Louisiana includes NM State along with road trips to Alabama (Sept. 29) and Mississippi State (Nov. 3). During the 2019 non-conference slate, the Ragin' Cajuns will visit NM State and Ohio (Sept. 21) while opening the season against Mississippi State (Aug. 31) in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and hosting Tulsa (Sept. 28).
