Fundraising arm eclipsed $2 million mark for second straight year

LAFAYETTE – After eclipsing the $2 million mark in donations for the second time in its history earlier this year, the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Foundation (RCAF) announced on Monday that its Annual Fund had raised a record total of $2.166 million for the 2015 calendar year.

The record-setting year for the RCAF Annual Fund comes on the heels of a record $2.165 million raised in 2014 and an athletic year that saw both the Ragin' Cajuns baseball and softball teams advance to the NCAA Super Regional, the women's basketball team claiming the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament championship and the completion of Tier 1 projects in the University's Athletic Facilities Master Plan.

"Thank you to our membership. Setting yet another record in RCAF Annual Fund dollars raised speaks directly to the passion and commitment of the Lafayette community and all of Ragin' Cajun Nation," RCAF Executive Director Jim Harris said. "That statistic speaks volumes given the current economic condition for our area. We cannot thank the RCAF members and supporters enough for their contributions, which directly benefit our student-athletes. Thank you to the RCAF Board of Directors as well for all that you did to make this possible."

Accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom saw both the baseball and softball teams claiming Sun Belt Conference titles, and Ragin' Cajuns student-athletes posting a four-year Federal Graduation Rate of 65 percent – the highest among public institutions in the state of Louisiana and tied for the best mark among Sun Belt Conference schools.

As an organization, the RCAF raised over $8.5 Million in 2015 with gifts to the Annual Fund being an important part of that total. Contributions to the RCAF Annual Fund provide unrestricted funds to enhance the student-athlete experience and enable support for overall operations, personnel, and facility improvements, such as elements of the Athletic Facilities Master Plan, which was released in 2013. Projects in Tier 1 of the three-tier plan included the addition of nearly 6,000 seats in the south end zone at Cajun Field, the completion of the new Soccer/Track Facility and the completion of the 100,000-square foot Student-Athlete Performance Center, which benefits all student-athletes in the Ragin' Cajuns 16 Division I athletic programs.

"On behalf of the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Foundation Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone who supported RCAF through a gift to the Annual Fund in 2015 and made this accomplishment possible," RCAF Chairman Robert Daigle. This organization has grown in each year of its existence and that success is directly attributed to the support and generosity of our membership."
