Ragin' Cajuns Officially Add Mississippi State Transfer To Roster

Dutchtown High product will have two years remaining beginning in 2016
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns head football coach Mark Hudspeth announced on Friday that Shelby Christy has transferred to the school after spending the previous two seasons at Mississippi State.

Christy, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound wide receiver, will sit out the 2015 season to fulfill the NCAA Transfer Rule before having two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016. The Geismar, La., native officially worked out with the Ragin' Cajuns for the first time in Thursday's afternoon practice session.

"We're excited to have Shelby join our team," Hudspeth said. "He's a fine young man and he has great size. We hope that he will be able to help our team in the future."

Christy did not play during his two seasons in Starkville as he redshirted for the Bulldogs as a true freshman in 2013 before suffering a season-ending knee injury in fall camp the following season.

A highly touted recruit at Dutchtown High School, Christy was a consensus top-100 wide receiver in the nation and was rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Scout.com, 247Sports.com and Rivals.com. Christy was considered the 17th-best player, regardless of position in Louisiana by 247Sports.com was rated as the No. 24-ranked prospect overall in the New Orleans Times-Picayune's postseason Nifty Fifty list.

A first-team All-District 5-5A selection as a senior in 2012, Christy caught 39 passes for 663 yards and five touchdowns and helped the Griffins to a 9-4 record and a trip to the regional round of the Class 5A state playoffs. He caught 25 passes for 400 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior, helping DHS to an undefeated record in the regular-season.
