LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team returns to action Saturday afternoon when the team hosts McNeese State for their First Responders/Military Appreciation Day at 2 p.m. at Lamson Park. Admission is free to the event.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 40-17 season and a season-ending RPI ranking of 47 after claiming the Southland Conference regular season title. Northwestern State ended McNeese State's run at a 2014 NCAA berth, defeating the Cowgirls in the SLC Tournament Championship. Louisiana battled McNeese State in an April midweek game last season, taking the contest 5-4 with a walk-off solo home run by Samantha Walsh to lift the Cajuns to victory.
Louisiana returns 22 letterwinners including NFCA All-Americans Christina Hamilton and Lexie Elkins from its 2014 Women's College Word Series team. Last season, the Cajuns posted a 49-10-1 record and a 19-1 Sun Belt Conference mark on their way to capturing the SBC regular season and tournament titles.
Following Saturday's contest, Louisiana will host LSU-Eunice in its American Heart Association Game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Cajuns will then travel to Gulfport, Mississippi, for a doubleheader against Florida State on Nov. 2 before closing out their fall slate on Nov. 8 with an Alumni Game.
