BURLINGTON, Iowa – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team carded a first round score of 11-over par (299) on the first day of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

“We didn't play as well as we would have liked,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “The promising thing is that we aren't out of things on a course where ground can be made up quickly. With the weather expected to be windy and wet later in the day tomorrow, hopefully we can take advantage of an early tee time and move up the leaderboard.”

Missouri leads the field at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at two-under par (286). Ball State (289), Iowa (292), Tulsa (293) and Wake Forest (294) round out the top five teams. Jace Long of Missouri and Steven Ihm of Iowa sit atop the individual leaderboard at four-under par (68).

Senior Yohann Vora led the way for the Cajuns in the first round with an 18-hole score of one-under par (71) to finish the day in a tie for seventh.

“I am very pleased with Yohann,” Sliman said. “He stayed within himself and really had a good round. If not for a couple decisions late in the round he could have led the field.”

Brandt Garon, Ethan Savoy and Ross Davis sit in 33^rd with a first round score of four-over par (76). Thomas Strandemo is in a tie for 66^th after posting an 82 his first round as a Cajun.

“Our goal for tomorrow is to come out and have everyone improve from what they shot today,” Sliman noted. “If we can just cut down on our mistakes I think we will find ourselves in a good position heading into the final round on Wednesday.”

The Cajuns return to action tomorrow at 9 a.m. as they are one of the first groups to tee off at Spirit Hollow. UL is paired with Central Arkansas and Long Beach State.
