Cajuns Crack Top 10, Climb to No. 8 in Both Polls

LAFAYETTE, La. – The undefeated Ragin' Cajuns softball team cracked the top 10 for the first time this season, standing in at No. 8 in both top 25 polls, which were released Tuesday.

Louisiana, (26-0, 3-0) moved up three spots in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 and two slots in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll after a 4-0 week, which included a 9-2 win over defending national champions and then No. 5 Arizona State.

UL defeated McNeese State, 6-0 last Tuesday before victories over Penn State, 5-1, Fresno State, 9-1 (5), and the win over the Sun Devils to finish 3-0 in the Judi Garman Classic. The Cajuns finished undefeated in the tournament for the first time since 1994.

Louisiana is off to their best start in program history and are one of three remaining teams undefeated, along with No. 1 Alabama (25-0) and No. 13/14 Louisville (22-0).

In other news, the Cajuns swept the LSWA awards this week as Nerissa Myers and Jordan Wallace were named hitter and pitcher of the week, respectively. Wallace has been recognized in back-to-back weeks and UL has garnered five LSWA honors this year.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to the field on Thursday as they host Georgia Tech in a non-conference double header beginning at 5:00 p.m. The first game will be broadcasted by local KLAF television.
