Lafayette, La -- The UL softball team remained perfect on the year after a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Friday evening at Lamson Park, in the third game of the 2012 Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.

Louisiana (13-0) received a dominating pitching performance from senior Ashley Brignac, who threw a complete game shut out. Brignac allowed just two hits and struck out 10 hitters, moving her into third place all-time in SBC history.

Sarah Draheim had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-3 and drove in a run. Matte Haack had two hits and an RBI, while Katie Smith produced the third Cajun RBI on the day.

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's (3-8) Laura Williams had the only two hits of the day on her way to a 2-for-3 effort.

Smith drew a five pitch walk to leadoff the game and Nerissa Myers reached safely on a bunt single to start a Cajuns threat in the top of the first. The Islanders retired the next three Cajun batters to sneak out of the jam.

Brignac shut down Texas A&M Corpus Christi in order in the bottom half of the inning, extending her scoreless innings streak to 13 and keeping the game scoreless through one.

The teams continued to struggle to find runs as Brignac struck out the side in the bottom of the third as the game remained tied at 0-0.

The Cajuns got on the board as Haack singled to left center to lead off the fourth, setting up Sarah Draheim two batters later. The junior catcher sent a rocket to center field for a double, scoring Haack from first, for a 1-0 lead.

Christi Orgeron started a two-out rally for Louisiana in the top of the fifth with an infield single and Brianna Cherry drew a walk to bring up Haack. The junior singled to left field, bringing in Orgeron upping the Cajun's lead to 2-0.

Brignac retired the side in order, including two strike outs in the bottom of the fifth, giving her a streak of 12 straight Islanders sent down.

Draheim recorded her second hit of the contest to begin the sixth. Draheim stole second and advanced to third on a groundout by Murphy bringing Smith to the plate with two outs. Smith came through with a clutch RBI infield single, upping the UL advantage to 3-0.

Brignac got through the sixth without allowing a base runner and recorded the first two outs of the seventh before surrendering her second hit to Phillips, breaking a string of 17 straight hitters retired. The senior struck out the final hitter to finish off her two-hit masterpiece.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to the field tomorrow for a double header against Kentucky and Nicholls State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
