Seven members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team, were recently recognized as National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athletes, for their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.
The NFCA program recognizes all student-athletes, who are able to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Three Cajuns garnered the award for perfect 4.0 GPA's, earned during the 2010-11 school year.
Seniors Ashley Brignac and Christi Orgeron and sophomore Natalie Fernandez all maintained a 4.0 in 2010-11, while still contributing heavily on the field for a nationally regarded program. Brignac was honored earlier this year as the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year. This summer, Orgeron was a 2011 World Cup Champion with Team USA.
Meagan Waterman, Sarah Draheim, Courtney Hollier and Katie Smith were also recognized for their scholastic achievements.
“This is a true testament to the quality of our student-athletes,” co-head coach Stefni Lotief said. “They truly understand the meaning of the pursuit of excellence. This is evident by their success both in the classroom and on the diamond.”
