Cajuns Sit In Sixth After Round One

Despite wind speeds nearing 25 mph in the afternoon, UL shot 299 on Monday at the Shoals and sit 15 strokes behind the early leader, Denver.
The Pioneers had the benefit of playing in the early grouping thus getting out in front of the wind many of the teams struggled with in the later groupings.
"The course showed its teeth today," said UL head coach Theo Sliman. "But I'm proud of how the guys played. They showed guts and determination on the back nine. That's the kind of momentum and mindset we want to take into tomorrow."
The Cajuns struggled early but all five golfers rebounded late. All five golfers shot even par or better thru the last six holes.
Fendt posted a 1-over round of 73 and is five strokes behind the leader, ULM's Nick Wilson. The junior from Austria started off the day with a 38 at the turn before posting a 35 down the stretch.
Thomas Petts also sits among the top-20 after shooting 74 (+2) thru the first 18 holes. Petts shot 40 on the front but an eagle at no. 12 and birdie at no. 15 brought him back in the hunt.
Andrew Noto and Chris Weninger sit alongside one another with a first round score of 76.
Ethan Savoy made a nice recovery on the back nine after starting the day with a 42 on the front nine. The sophomore shot 1-under with three birdies on the last nine holes to finish at 77.
Round two of the Club Glove Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday. The delayed start is because of the threat of inclement weather moving into the Muscle Shoals/Florence area. Tomorrow's pairings will be split with groups 1-10 starting at hole No. 10 and groups 11-20 starting at hole No. 1.
