Brandt Garon, who signed a National Letter of Intent with the Cajuns golf team last fall, blitzed a field of 100 Division I golfers and captured top honors at the 15th Annual Red Wolf Intercollegiate on Tuesday, hosted by Arkansas State.

The tournament was shorted to 36 holes after inclement weather on Monday.

In the two-round tournament, Garon posted scores of 66 (-6) and 69 (-3) to finish two strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. Monday's round of 66 was the tournament low, narrowly missing the tournament record of 65. As a team, Meridian finished tied for seventh in the field of 18.

Garon, last season's NJCAA Division I individual champion, is currently a sophomore at Meridian Community College and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he tees it up for the Cajuns in the fall.

Garon will be teaming up with a former teammate from Meridian next season. Current Cajun Garrett Westbrook has seen limited action for UL this past season. While at Meridian, Westbrook was a two-time NJCAA All-America. He and Garon helped lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2010 NJCAA National Championship.
