After a fantastic start on Sunday, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team struggled to keep pace on Monday, dropping five spots to seventh place at the Jim West Intercollegiate presented by Dell in Victoria, Texas.
The Cajuns had started the day in a tie for second place after shooting 293 at the par 72 Victoria Country Club, just six strokes off the leader, Louisiana Tech. But after Monday's second round score of 304, UL now sits 21 strokes behind the Bulldogs.
Andrew Noto started Monday in second place after carding a 69 (-3) on Sunday and was just one stroke behind the leader after the first 18 holes. But a second round of 80 (+8), saw Noto's name tumble down the leaderboard into a tie for 19th overall.
Chris Weninger also had a second-round swoon. The freshman has been playing red hot as of late and continued the trend on Sunday with a score of 72 (E) to sit in a tie for sixth place. But on Monday, a score of 4-over dropped Weninger into a tie for 16th place.
Two Cajuns improved their stock on Monday after stumbling in the opening round. Philipp Fendt and Thomas Petts got of to a slow start with identical scores of 76 (+4). But on Sunday both improved slightly with scores of 74 to each move into a tie for 27th place.
La. Tech still leads after 36 holes with a score of 576 (E). Southeastern Louisiana (578), College of Charleston (588), UTA (590), Texas State (596) and Stephen F. Austin (596) round out the top five teams.
Tech's Sam Forgan and Southeastern's Philipp Westermann lead the field of 84 at 6-under par (138).
Play will resume tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live stats are available at www.golfstat.com.
