Cajuns Practice Report No. 10
3/30/2011 11:50:00 PM | Football
The stretch of beautiful spring practice days was interrupted on Wednesday, as the temperature dipped below 60 degrees with a crisp northeast wind gusting 10-15mph. With half an inch of rain falling earlier in the day, the team also dealt with the wet ground.
"It was good to move around in different conditions," head coach Mark Hudspeth stated. "We had to work with a wet ball and that's a good thing. We are trying to prepare for every situation this spring.
"It gave us an excuse to go inside and work on the turf. We needed to practice on turf since we play on it."
In addition to fewer contact drills on Wednesday, Hudspeth also shaved about 15-20 minutes off practice.
"We tried to pull back on the physical part of practice just a little bit today," Hudspeth added. "We've been beating on each other pretty hard and we want to have the team fresh for the remaining five practices."
Wednesday was not a competition day for the offense and defense. A majority of the 23 practice periods were about all aspects of the kicking game and fundamentals. Practice ended with some live work on the two-minute offense and defense.
"Overall it was a good day," Hudspeth said. "We are still cleaning things up and slowing the game down a little bit.
"I can't say it enough how hard the guys are working this spring and how much effort they are showing.
"We want to get their legs back a little bit (today) because we are going to tee it back up on Friday."
The Cajuns will return to the practice field on Friday afternoon at 3pm.
