Cajuns Set for Judi Garman Classic

After a single home game, a win over McNeese State on Tuesday night, the Cajuns return to the road as they travel to Fullerton, Calif., this weekend for the Judi Garman Classic.
Prior to their 9-4 win over McNeese State on Tuesday, the Cajuns had spent 13 straight games on the road, including two tournaments and their Sun Belt opening series at North Texas.
The 19th ranked Cajuns (21-3) will play five games in the three days at the Judi Garman Classic. Their schedule is as follows:

Game Day Storylines
- For the 18th straight season, the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Cal State Fullerton for the Judi Garman Classic. Last season the Cajuns went 1-4 in Fullerton with a win over Fresno State.
- UL is coming off of a 9-4 home win over McNeese State on Tuesday. Prior to that single home game, the Cajuns had played 13 straight on the road. After the Judi Garman Classic, the Cajuns will return home the following weekend for a Sun Belt series with Troy.
- Junior outfielder Christi Orgeron comes into this weekend having reached base safely in all 24 of the Cajuns' games, including hitting safely in 23. She leads the Sun Belt with 42 RBI and has posted at least one RBI in 19 of 24 games this season.
- The UL pitching staff enters the weekend with a 1.26 team ERA, by far the best in the Sun Belt. No other team in the league has an ERA under 2.00. The Cajuns also have a lower team ERA than all five of their opponents this weekend.
- UL will be facing off against its third and fourth ranked opponents of the season this weekend in No. 7/7 Arizona and No. 6/5 Arizona State. UL is 1-1 in their previous two games, including a 1-0 win over then No. 3/1 Alabama.
Scouting the Competition
RV/RV Notre Dame
- The Fighting Irish enter this weekend's contests at 14-2 after a doubleheader sweep at Cal Poly on Sunday. Prior to those games, Notre Dame last played at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., going 3-2 with losses to Alabama and Longwood. The Cajuns also took part in that tournament, but never met the Fighting Irish.
- The Irish are hitting .282 as a team while their opponents are hitting .198. Notre Dame comes in with a 1.36 team ERA, including Laura Winter who sits at 0.39 in eight appearances with 35.2 innings.
- UL leads the all-time series over Notre Dame 4-3, including a 1-1 mark in Fullerton. The two squads last met in 2007 at the Judi Garman Classic, with the Cajuns winning that contest 4-2. Their other meeting in Fullerton came at the then KIA Classic in 2000 with Notre Dame winning that contest 4-2.
No. 7/7 Arizona
- The Wildcats currently sit at 23-4 after a doubleheader sweep at New Mexico State on Wednesday. Arizona went 1-2 in a three-game series with Baylor last weekend.
- As a team, the Wildcats are hitting .334 with a 2.27 team ERA. Brittany Lastrapes leads UA with a .512 batting average while ace Kenzie Fowler currently sits with a 1.70 ERA in 16 starts.
- Arizona leads the all-time series over UL18-3. The two squads last met in 2008 at the Judi Garman Classic with Arizona winning 2-0.
No. 6/5 Arizona State
- The Sun Devils currently sit at 26-1 after a doubleheader sweep of Western Illinois on Wednesday night. The Judi Garman Classic will mark the ASU's first games outside of Tempe.
- ASU is hitting .407 as a team including Katelyn Boyd who is batting .507 with 10 home runs. The Sun Devils come in with a 1.54 team ERA with opponents hitting .198 against them.
- ASU leads the all-time series over UL 6-3, including 3-1 in Fullerton. The last meeting between the two squads came in 2008 at the Judi Garman Classic, with the Sun Devils winning 3-1. The Cajuns are 1-5 against Arizona in Fullerton
New Mexico
- The Lobos currently sit at 10-9 with a doubleheader scheduled at San Jose State on Thrusday. New Mexico went 3-1 last weekend at Nevada's tournament, including a win over Sun Belt opponent FIU.
- The Lobos are hitting .314 as a team while their opponents are hitting .312. Jessica Garcia leads the squad with a .515 batting average. The Lobos currently sit with a 4.65 team ERA with Kari Gutierrez and Kaela DeBroeck getting all but one of their starts.
- UL defeated New Mexico in their only previous meeting, in 2009 at the Judi Garman Classic, 9-0.
RV/RV Long Beach State
- The 49er's currently sit at16-8 with a single game scheduled against Texas on Thursday. Long Beach went 2-2 last weekend in their own tournament, falling to UCLA and BYU.
- The 49er's are currently hitting .271 as a team while their opponents are hitting .199. LBSU sits with a 2.26 team ERA.
- UL trails the all-time series against Long Beach, 2-1, with the last meeting coming in 2005 at the then KIA Classic, with Long Beacj winning 4-1. UL is 0-2 against the 49er's in Fullerton.
