Game Day Storylines
- The Cajuns enter the Cowgirl Classic at 10-0, their best start since 2006 when UL started the season 22-0. UL has started a season at least 10-0 on five different occasions now.
- UL has outscored their 10 opponents by a score of 135-3 thus far in the 2010. The Cajuns are by the far the highest-scoring team in the Sun Belt. South Alabama sits at second with 81 runs scored.
- Taryn Broussard became the second player in UL and Sun Belt history to hit three home runs in a game when she did so against Tennessee State last weekend. Gabriele Bridges was the first to do so when she did so against Prairie View at the Louisiana Classics (2/12).
- The Cajuns pitching staff has given up just one earned run through 10 games in 2011. That number adds up to a 0.12 team ERA. Opponents are hitting just .106 against the Cajuns.
- In comparison, the Cajuns offense is hitting .425 with 40 extra base hits including 17 home runs.
Scouting the Competition
Southern
- The Jags enter the weekend at 1-10 in 2011. Southern dropped their most recent contest, a 5-1 home loss to Nicholls State on Wedensday. They went 1-4 at their season opening tournament at Southeastern Louisiana and 0-5 last weekend at a tournament at the University of Houston.
- The Cajuns are 1-0 all-time against Southern. The one win was a record setting 35-1 contest on March 30, 2000. That game still stands as UL's single game record for runs scored.
Jackson State
- The Tigers enter this weekend at 3-6, coming off of a 5-1 loss to Belhaven on Tuesday. JSU posted a doubleheader sweep of Millsaps last Friday, and went 1-4 in their season opening tournament at Southeastern Louisiana.
- This weekend's contest marks the first between UL and JSU in school history.
Grambling State
- The Lady Tigers currently sit at 5-2 after their most recent contest, a home win over Centenary on Tuesday. Grambling opened the season at 2-2 at the Tiny Lassiter Classic in Conyers, Ga. before sweeping a home doubleheader from Texas College.
- The Cajuns lead the all-time series over the Grambling, 13-0. The teams were scheduled to play last season but the doubleheader was canceled. UL and Grambling have never met on a neutral field
McNeese State
- The Cowgirls currently sit at 2-9 after losing on the road to LSU by a score of 7-1 on Wednesday. The Cowgirls went 1-3 at the Auburn Tiger Invitational last weekend. McNeese opened its season with a 1-4 record at the Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor.
- The Cajuns have played McNeese for times than any other school, holding a 91-24 advantage in the all-time series. UL split a home doubleheader with the Cowgirls last season, as well as winning a single game on the road. At one point in the late 1990s and early 2000s the Cajuns defeated the Cowgirls 38 consecutive times.
Houston Baptist
- The Huskies currently sit at 5-4 and have yet to participate in a tournament. HBU won its most recent contest, 2-0, at home against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. HBU went 1-2 against Army on opening weekend, then split a mid-week doubleheader at Sam Houston and went 2-1 at UTEP last weekend.
- The Cajuns are 12-0 all-time against Houston Baptist, but the two squads have not met since April 9, 1994.
