Track Opens 2011 Indoor Season Saturday
1/14/2011 11:15:00 PM | Track and Field
The Conference Challenge will feature three leagues including the Big 12, Southland and Sun Belt.
Representing the Big 12 will be Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas-Arlington will represent the Southland. Three Sun Belt teams will be featured - Louisiana, La.-Monroe and North Texas.
Saturday's meet will be the first meet for newly named interim head coach Paula Ogunbanjo. Ogunbanjo had previously served as the Ragin' Cajuns assistant coach since 2007. She replaces Charlie Mahfouz, who resigned in October.
Competing in Saturday's meet for the Ragin' Cajuns is junior Antwain Keyes. Keyes is the defending Sun Belt men's high jump champion after clearing a distance of 6-6 1/4 last season.
Also returning this season to defend his triple jump conference title is O'Daylon Thibeaux. The sophomore won the Sun Belt indoor title with a distance of 49-11.
Jasmine Anderson, a returning All-Sun Belt Conference performer in the women's 55-meter hurdles, will compete in the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.
Five ranked teams are scheduled to participate in Saturday's meet. On the men's side, Texas A&M was ranked third, Oklahoma ranked 18th and 24th in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's preseason Top 25 poll released last week.
In the USTFCCA's Top 25 women's poll, the Aggies are ranked second, while Oklahoma is 10th.
Events are scheduled to begin at Noon and conclude at approximately 6:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action live at AggieAthletics.com.
