An error in the fourth inning led to FIU grabbing the lead and starting pitcher Scott Rembisz held Louisiana in check in an 8-1 Golden Panthers victory Friday night in the series opener at FIU Baseball Stadium in Miami.

Rembisz held the Cajuns (13-13, 3-7 Sun Belt) to one run (unearned) on four hits over seven innings as he outdueled Louisiana's Zach Osborne.

The two teams will continue the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. (CDT). UL's T.J. Geith will face FIU's R.J. Fondon on the mound.

The Golden Panthers (17-9, 4-3 Sun Belt) broke open the game with a four-spot in the eighth inning. Corey Polizzano - who entered in the Cajuns' half of the eighth with a 4-1 lead - tossed two scoreless innings for the save.

The loss was the first for the Ragin' Cajuns on Friday night in Sun Belt play.

Osborne suffered his first defeat in SBC play, and second overall. He pitched well through seven innings, limiting FIU to just four runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Chad Keefer looped a single into left field in the ninth inning to extend his career-best hitting streak to 18 games.

Osborne and Rembisz traded scoreless frames through the first three innings. Osborne held the Golden Panthers hitless through the first two innings.

Louisiana received a leadoff single from Alex Fuselier in the fourth inning. He moved into scoring position when an errant throw was made on a Matt Goulas sacrifice bunt. On the next at bat, Jordan Porrier lofted a sacrifice fly to deep center to score the first run of game.

An error came into play in FIU's half of the fourth and the hosts capitalized.

An error by Poirrier on a grounder from Garrett Wittels led to runs scored by Jeremy Patton and Mike Martinez, who both singled with one out, for a 2-1 lead. Wittels later made it to third base and scored the second unearned run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Alfonso.

FIU extended the lead to three runs in the seventh on a solo home run by Jabari Henry.
