Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns broke a 6-all tie in the seventh inning with a three-spot and went on to claim a 10-6 victory over Southern Miss Sunday afternoon at M.L. "Tigue Moore Field in the weekend series finale.

Dillon Guillory roped a liner through the left side to score Matt Goulas - who led off the inning with a single - with the game-winning run.

Taylor Hubbell closed the door on the Golden Eagles as he pitched scoreless baseball in the eighth and ninth inning to collect his first save of the season. Hubbell finished the weekend set with five innings of scoreless relief.

The victory allowed Louisiana (6-4) to salvage a win in the weekend series with USM (7-4) and avoid the sweep.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to action on Tuesday, March 9 as they continue their 10-game homestand and open a two-game, mid-week series with Alcorn State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., at "The Tigue".

The key inning for UL was the third when a four-run frame erased an early 4-0 USM lead. T.J. Geith would then allow only two runs and three hits over his final four innings on the mound.

Geith picked up his second win, improving to 2-0. He fanned seven hitters over seven innings - his second straight start of seven complete innings.

Six different Cajuns notched at least one RBI led by three from Jordan Poirrier that came on a bases-clearing triple in the third.

USM used six relievers after starter Geoffrey Thomas exited after three innings. Mandella Mingo, who allowed Goulas' leadoff single in the seventh, was charged with the loss.

A leadoff walk issued by Geith to start the second inning put the wheels in motion for a three-spot frame for USM.

The Ragin' Cajuns came alive in the bottom half of the third, loading the bases with no outs. Poirrier cashed in on the next at bat as he cranked a triple into the right center gap that cleared the bases cutting the USM lead to 4-3. The triple was UL's first extra base hit of the series.

Chad Keefer followed Poirrier with a sacrifice fly to center field that evened the score at 4-all.

Geith stranded a pair of USM runners on the corners in the fifth to keep the tie intact.

Louisiana chased reliever Cody Schlagel in the fifth after loading the bases with no outs. Matt Warren came out of the USM bullpen and on his first offering committed a balk which allowed Kyle Olasin to cross home plate for a 5-4 lead.

A Goulas sacrifice fly - his second of the series - upped the Louisiana lead to two runs.

A two-out RBI single through the left side underneath the reach of Trask Switzenberg who was diving to his left on the play scored two more USM runs to create another tie in the sixth inning.
