Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns crossed the midway point of spring football on Monday, as the team conducted its eighth of 15 practices.

The team did not start practice until 4 p.m. and ended prior to 6 p.m. on a beautiful afternoon in Lafayette.  The starting time was delayed 30 minutes so that the team had more time to watch video of Saturday's scrimmage.

"We spent some time correcting things from Saturday's scrimmage," defensive line coach Gerald Broussard said.  "We were also able to install some new things.

"It was a good day and I look forward to Wednesday."

Although the defense failed to generate any fumbles or interceptions in Saturday's scrimmage, the coaching staff credited the defense for getting to the quarterback nine times and blocking a field goal.  The defense didn't hear any negatives from the coaches prior to Monday's workout.

"You want to push for turnovers," Broussard added.  "But it wouldn't have mattered if we had 20 turnovers (in Saturday's scrimmage), you start fresh every day."

One of the most confusing aspects for the defense on Monday was quarterback Brad McGuire once again playing running back.  After a rash of injuries, McGuire stepped-in at running back midway through Saturday's scrimmage.  With those injuries still lingering, McGuire will continue to play running back for the foreseeable future.

"The guys were a little confused on the first couple of snaps because it looked like there were two quarterbacks in the game," Broussard said.  "After a few plays he became just another guy in a white shirt who we were trying to hit."

The team will practice on Wednesday and Friday to get ready for the second spring scrimmage on Saturday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m.

"We are going to go live (Wednesday)," Broussard stated.  "The goal is to execute the new stuff and to make sure we don't repeat the mistakes we made on Saturday.  Hopefully we'll continue to show improvement."
