Cajuns Prep For Saturday Scrimmage

The team enjoyed the first hour of Wednesday's practice inside the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility before moving to Cajun field for another hour. The rain held off to allow the Cajuns a full workout under dry conditions.
Most of the early work was within individual position groups before the Cajuns moved to the stadium for specials teams, pass skeleton and live work.
The Cajuns have an abundance of injured wide receivers, and as a result, the team altered practice to make the running game the center of attention.
"The focus was to run the ball," quarterbacks coach Jorge Munoz stated. "The quarterbacks were not live, so we didn't run any of our zone read plays.
"Most of the formations were very tight, not much spread offense at all. It was heavy sets in an attempt to pound the ball. It's not something we do all the time, but it's in our playbook."
The team saw 42 snaps during the live work, 25 of which were running plays. Quarterbacks Brad McGuire, Blaine Gautier and Brady Thomas each received an equal numbers of snaps, with 2009 starter Chris Masson getting slightly less work.
"I think our quarterbacks made some good throws (on Wednesday)," Munoz added. "We weren't as efficient running the ball as anyone would like, so it's important to watch the film and get better.
"Friday will be a day to focus on some of the plays we'll run during the scrimmage.
"Hopefully we'll open up the passing game a little more on Saturday, assuming we get some receivers healthy."
