Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns fell into a big hole early and never threatened, as South Alabama claimed a 79-59 victory on Saturday at the Mitchell Center.

UL now sits at 8-18 (3-11) on the season, while USA stands at 14-12 (9-6).

South Alabama won the game with a 40-point first half outburst, while holding the Cajuns to just 21 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Jaguars were 8-of-12 from three-point range and dominated the boards 25-10 in the first half.

The Cajuns had no rally in the second half, as the Jaguars used a 26-6 run to take a 72-37 edge midway through the second half.

UL was led by Alexis Green, who scored 23 points.  Mercedes Johnson and Jasmine Barnes had 11 and 10 points, respectively.  All three players grabbed six rebounds.

USA saw four players in double figures, led by 16 points from Christian Shelter.  Cylenthia Kennon led all players with seven rebounds.

The Cajuns only committed two fouls in the first half, but Johnson was whistled for both in the first 2:38 of the game.  USA led 5-4 prior to Johnson's second personal foul, but then immediately went on an 11-0 run to build a 16-4 lead at the 13:16 mark.  The Jaguars owned the boards at that point, 14-2, including 7-1 on the offensive glass.

The Cajuns scored six straight points to cut their deficit in half thanks to back-to-back jumpers by D'Mya Clay and a pair of free throws by Jamie Gunter.

USA then hit six three-pointers in a 20-8 run to build a 36-18 lead at the 2:32 mark.
