On Friday, head golf coach Theo Sliman announced that Brandt Garon has signed a national letter of intent to play for the University of Louisiana in 2010-11 season.

Garon, a Baton Rouge La. native, currently plays at Meridian Community College and has made an immediate impact for the Eagles since joining in 2009.

"Brandt is a very accomplished junior college player with an impressive resume. I first saw him in high school and was impressed with his ball striking," said Sliman. "Through his two years at Meridian, he knows the routine, the demands and goals of playing at the collegiate level. You can't teach that kind of experience. He will be a key addition to elevating our program and one I'm proud to have as a Ragin' Cajun."

During his freshman season, Garon set six school records en route to becoming the program's first individual NJCAA Division I national champion as he lead the Eagles to a national runner up finish in just their second season at the Division I level.

"With four individual victories in three semesters including being crowned the National Junior College Individual Champion," added Sliman, "the young man knows not only how to win but what it takes to get there."

Garon was named to the All-America, All-Region and All-Freshmen teams by the Golf Coaches Association of America. In addition the National Junior College Athletic Association named him a First Team All-America selection.

Following his national medalist title, the GCAA announced that Garon was the recipient of the prestigious Arnold Palmer Award as the best junior college golfer in the nation.

During his time at MCC, Garon has shot even par or lower a remarkable 25 times of out of his 43 career rounds. His career scoring average is a school record best at even par (72.1), with a current under par average of 71.9 his sophomore season. He has won four tournament titles as an individual, including the NJCAA Division I National Championship. He has been named to eight career all-tournament teams.

During his 43 rounds as a starter for MCC, the Eagles have counted his score a remarkable 43 times, making his 100% contribution rate the highest in school history.

Next August, Garon will join former MCC All-America golfer, Garrett Westbrook, who played for MCC in 2008-2010. Westbrook is currently a junior on the UL golf team.
