The Cajuns broke open the game with two touchdowns in less than five minutes after
Both scores by UL came on big plays. After Tyrell Fenroy gained 20 yards on a rush, Michael Desormeaux hit Ladarius Green with a deep ball over the defense for a 55-yard touchdown to start the scoring.
After Desormeaux gained 19 yards on a rush, wide receiver Jason Chery took a pitch on the left side and bolted down the sidelines 47 yards to extend the Cajuns lead to 37-21 with 6:28 to play in the third quarter.
Fenroy's third touchdown of the game sealed the win early in the fourth quarter. Fenroy punched the ball in from the one-yard line after Orkeys Auriene's 64-yard punt return put the Cajuns inside the
For the second straight week, Fenroy established a career milestone. One week after passing Brian Mitchell to become the all-time leading rusher in school history, Fenroy passed Brandon Stokley on Saturday to gain sole possession of the career combined rushing and receiving record.
Fenroy finished the game with 194 yards rushing and 68 receiving upping his career total to 3,987 yards rushing and receiving. Stokley, a two-time Super Bowl Champion and current member of the Denver Broncos, had held the record with 3,761 combined rushing and receiving yards.
Fenroy rushed for 100-plus yards in a Cajuns' home opener for the fourth straight season. His game-ending tally established a new career-high and ranks as the seventh-best rushing performance in school history.
As a team, UL piled up 414 yards rushing led by Fenroy's 194 and Desormeaux's 150.
The Cajuns continued their pattern of early turnovers, as Michael Desormeaux fumbled on the first play of the Cajuns' second possession. KSU scored on the next play, an 11-yard run from Julian Edelman, to take an early 7-0 lead.
UL bounced back with a 12-play, 83-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard field goal from Drew Edmiston. The drive's key play came via a swing pass to Fenroy that he took 65 yards to the KSU 24-yard line. Eventually, a 12-yard run by Desormeaux moved the Cajuns down to the one-yard line, but a false start penalty hindered the team's chance to get more than the field goal.
The Cajuns countered with a five-play, 66-yard scoring drive to take the lead for good. Desormeaux set-up the score with a 43-yard run down to the KSU 20-yard line. Two runs by Fenroy gave the Cajuns 15 yards and then Desormeaux capped off the scoring drive with a five-yard scamper.

Edelman's second touchdown run pulled the visitors within two points, 23-21, at 11:07 of the third quarter.
