South Alabama Eliminates Women's Tennis

MONROE, La.-No. 4 seed Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 2 seed South Alabama in the consolation round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championships. The loss ended the 2008 season for the Cajuns.
Louisiana (16-8) lost the doubles point after South Alabama (18-5) was able to take two of the three doubles matches and go up 1-0 early in the match. The team of Mia Gordon and Julie Mazinova picked up an 8-2 victory at No. 3, but the Jaguar duo of Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg tied things back up with an 8-6 win at No. 1. USA's Michaela Babicova and Katie Welch then sealed the point with an 8-4 win over Angela Dangond and Myrthe Molenveld at No. 2
In singles play, USA's Solarova increased the Jaguar's lead to 2-0 after she defeated Mazinova 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Kim van der Horst cut the lead to 2-1 with her 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory over Erica Krisan at No. 4. Michaela Babinova topped Molenveld 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 to move USA to 3-1. Louisiana picked up the next two wins at Nos. 3 and 5, but USA clinched the match after Jelena Krivacevic defeated Gordon 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 6.
