SMU Defeats Women?s Tennis, 5-2

DALLAS, Texas-Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped their final road match of the season Sunday. The Cajuns fell 5-2 to Southern Methodist University. The loss dropped the Cajuns to 14-6 on the year.

The Cajuns were able to capture two wins in singles play. Freshman Briggitt Marcovich topped Sarah Acosta 7-6 (4-0), 6-3 at No. 5, and freshman Mia Gordon bested Lindsay Norman 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

Louisiana did take their matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 into three sets. Freshman Julie Mazinova fell to No. 88 Natalia Bubien 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5-0) at No. 1. SMU's Pavi Francis defeated sophomore Myrthe Molenveld 1-6, 6-1,6-2 at No. 2. Freshman Kim van der Horst was defeated by Nicole Briceno 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5-0) at No. 3.

The Cajuns lost the doubles point after falling to SMU at Nos. 1 and 2. Mazinova and Gordon defeated Acosta and Norman 8-1 at No. 3.

Louisiana will wrap-up their regular season at home tomorrow against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
