Women?s Tennis Falls to USA, 5-2

MOBILE, Ala.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell to No. 60 South Alabama 5-2 on Saturday. The loss dropped the Cajuns to 9-4 on the season, while the Jaguars remain a perfect 10-0 on the year.
The Cajuns picked up two of the six singles matches and dropped the doubles point after falling at Nos. 1 and 3.
In singles action, sophomore Myrthe Molenveld bested Erica Krisan 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, and freshman Briggitt Marcovich picked up the other Cajuns' win with her 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sylvanie Spangenberg at No. 5.
Freshman Julie Mazinova fell to Andrianna Solarova 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, and freshman Kim van der Horst was defeated by No. 97 Michaela Babicova 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. USA's Katie Welch defeated UL's Angela Dangond in three sets at No. 4. Dangond fell to Welch 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Sophomore Marina Ruiz de Gauna was defeated by Jelena Krivacevic 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6.
In doubles play, Dangond and partner Molenveld had the only Cajuns' win of the afternoon. The pair bested Welch and Babicova 8-7 at No. 2.
Van der Horst and Marcovich were defeated by Solarova and Spangenberg 8-2 at No. 1, and Mazinova and freshman Mia Gordon were defeated by Krivacevic and Krisan 8-3 at No. 3.
The Cajuns will next be in action on Sunday, March 9 when they take on Sun Belt Conference opponent Troy University in Troy. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
