Men?s Tennis Falls to No. 65 FAU, 5-2

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 65 Florida Atlantic on Saturday. The loss drops the Cajuns to 5-8 on the year, while the Owls move to 12-4.

The Cajuns captured two matches in singles competition. Freshman Murilo Martins defeated Daniel Vardag in three sets, winning 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5. Freshman Stefan Hawkins bested Lawrence Harradine 6-4, 7-6 at No. 6.

Sophomore Piotrek Banas fell to Marc Abdelnour 6-0, 7-6 at No. 1, and freshman Piotr Olechowski was defeated 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2. Junior Arlen Domoney was defeated by Corey Smith 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3, and sophomore Jorge Delgado was bested by Karol Szmurlo 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4.

In doubles action, Louisiana won the match at the No. 1 position. Banas and Olechowski topped Sajous and Vardag 8-5.

Delgado and Domoney fell to Abdelnour and Eddie Majcher 9-7 at No. 2, and Hawkins and Martins were defeated by Osvaldo Benitez and Joshua Scholl 8-0.

The Cajuns take on Belmont tomorrow in Boca Raton. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
