Cajuns Move Up in the Polls

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team moved up in both national polls after their perfect 3-0 start to the season as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cajuns, ranked No. 24 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's preseason poll moved up four spots to claim the No. 20 slot.

UL also moved up three spots in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, from No. 20 to No. 17.

The Cajuns were one of nine teams in the NFCA poll to go perfect in the opening weekend, while only one of seven teams to be flawless in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

Arizona remained the top team in both Top-25 polls, despite not playing over the weekend, with Alabama claiming the No. 2 spot in both polls. Texas A&M was the No. 3 in the two polls with Arizona State (No. 4 ESPN.com/No. 5 NFCA) and Tennessee (No. 4 NFCA/No. 5 ESPN.com) rounding out the Top-5.

Three teams dropped out of the initial preseason poll. Georgia Tech and Oregon fell out of both polls, while Texas dropped out of the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and Missouri fell out of the NFCA Top-25.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 20 as they head to Lake Charles, La., to take on McNeese State. First pitch for the game is tabbed for 5:00 p.m.
