Cajuns Host Troy in Sun Belt Opener

LAFAYETTE - Defending Sun Belt Conference champion Troy will invade Cajun Field Saturday to face Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns in the 2007 Sun Belt Conference opener for both schools. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at "The Swamp." UL fans can follow the action online with Live stats on RaginCajuns.com. In addition, fans can watch LIVE streaming video of the game exclusively on Ragin' Station, the Official Broadband Video Channel of the Ragin' Cajuns.
Last weekend, the Cajuns (0-3) suffered a heartbreaking 38-17 loss at the hands of in-state rival McNeese State. It was the first meeting in 21 years between the schools.
Offensively, the Cajuns are led by the junior rushing duo of quarterback Michael Desormeaux (New Iberia, La.) and running back Tyrell Fenoy (LaPlace, La.). Fenroy leads the team with 306 rushing yards on 60 carries, while Desormeaux ranks second with 263 yards. Desormeaux owns a 56.5 completion percentage, completing 39-of-69 passing for 459 yards with three touchdowns. Wide receiver Derrick Smith (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) leads the team with 11 catches for 235 yards.
Troy (1-2), on the other hand, won its first game of the 2007 season with an emphatic 41-23 victory over Oklahoma State on ESPN2 last Friday night. The Trojans are paced offensively by senior quarterback Omar Haugabook, who has completed 77-of-143 passing for 858 yards with four touchdowns.
Louisiana leads the all-time series 8-3, despite the Trojans winning three of the last four meetings. UL is 1-2 against the Trojans at Cajun Field.
Following Saturday's meeting the Troy Trojans, the Cajuns will travel to the Sunshine State to face the UCF Knights Saturday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
