Football: Mid-Week Practice Report
8/29/2007 5:00:00 AM | Football
The Cajuns began their game week preparations two days early for the season opener at South Carolina. Louisiana was able to do some game prep during practice last Thursday and Friday. Following a "special situations" walk through on Saturday, the team went back to work on Sunday night at Cajun Field.
Monday was the players' mandatory day off, but the team got back into their routine on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both practices occurred in the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility. The team will work out on Thursday before departing for Columbia, S.C. on Friday morning. A walk through is scheduled at Williams-Brice Stadium for 4:15pm (ET).
Five questions for head coach Rickey Bustle...
Why the practices inside this week?
Bustle: "The problem we had was lightning, not the rain. It really didn't rain much. The lightning meter indicated that we needed to go inside. Once we are inside, it's easier to stay put."
What would you have done if you didn't have the luxury of an indoor facility?
Bustle: "There's no question that it saved us. Our game prep remained on schedule without distraction. Yesterday it only took us three minutes to transition inside. Today we moved inside and didn't have any worries. Otherwise we'd be bouncing inside and outside."
What is the Cajuns biggest asset heading into the first game?
Bustle: "I think the guys have worked very hard to eliminate the mistakes that beat you. The players and the coaches have been talking about it. If we make mistakes against a team like South Carolina then they are going to make it tough on you."
What is the Cajuns biggest weakness for the opener?
Bustle: "It's the first time out with a new offense and a new defense. We haven't seen it against anyone other than ourselves."
How have the players picked-up the new offense and defense compared to what you expected?
Bustle: "I think they picked it up very well. There are still some things that they are learning everyday. We made mistakes on Tuesday, but I saw a lot fewer on Wednesday. Hopefully, Thursday's practice will remain crisp."
