Women?s Tennis Triumphs Over Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss.- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team recorded a 4-3 win against Ole Miss on Wednesday to remain undefeated (7-0) in the 2007 season.

The Cajuns were victorious in four of the six singles matches. Tammy Day posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Ilona Somers at the No. 1 position.

Chanell Meijer dropped her first match of the season to Ole Miss's Kseniia Tokarieva 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 position while Myrthe Molenveld recorded a victory at the No. 3 spot 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 against Nika Koukhartchouk.

Ole Miss's Carlin Cochran was forced to retire from her match, giving Angela Dangond the win. Clemence Remy defeated Emily Ladyman 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 position.

The Cajuns only other singles loss came from Laura Martelli after she was defeated by Soledad Podlipnik 6-3, 6-5, default at the No. 4 spot.

The Cajuns dropped the doubles point to the Lady Rebels after losing at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Molenveld and Remy defeated Cochran and Ladyman 6-4, ret. at the No. 2 spot.

Meijer and Day were defeated at No. 1 by Somers and Tokarieva 8-0, and Dangond and Kimmie Lyles were defeated by Koukhartchouk and Podlipnik 8-2 at the No. 3 position.

The Cajuns will face Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
