Box Score

Charlotte, N.C. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns traveled to Charlotte on Tuesday for a rare February non-conference game and fell to the 49ers by a final score of 80-56.

Charlotte (12-12) has been one of the most highly regarded three-point shooting teams in the nation over the last decade and they showed off their long range skills throughout the game.

The 49ers made 13-of-29 three pointers, with six different players making at least one triple.

A poor first half put Louisiana (7-18) in a 16-point hole which the Cajuns could not escape. Charlotte shot 50 percent in the opening half and connected on six early three-point baskets to build a big lead.

Four Cajuns turnovers in the opening four minutes, coupled with a pair of triples by the 49ers, led to a 12-4 lead by the hosts.

Three more three pointers propelled the 49ers' edge to 26-8 at the 10:42 mark.

Charlotte's lead vaulted to 20 points at the 9:55 mark.

UL scored the next six points thanks to a triple by Ross Mouton and an offensive put-back by Mouton, but the 49ers then scored the next eight points to take their biggest lead of the first half, 38-16, with 4:14 to play.

Adam James helped the Cajuns close the half with a 6-0 run, converting a three-point play and adding an offensive put-back.

James led the Cajuns with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Four 49ers finished in double figures, led by De'Angelo Alexander with 19 points.

Three triples by Alexander in the first five minutes of the second half helped the 49ers push their lead to up 21 points, 52-31.

From there, the Cajuns went with a variety of different line-ups in an attempt to change the game.  Unfortunately, UL had problems generating offense and found themselves down 27 points, 65-38, with 8:28 remaining.

An 8-0 run by the Cajuns cut their deficit to 19 points, 65-46, with 5:21 remaining.  James scored four points in the middle of baskets by Alphonso Williams and Tyren Johnson.

The 49'ers responded with a 13-0 run.

The Cajuns will return home to face in-state rival Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday at 7:05pm at the Cajundome.
