LAFAYETTE - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns head football coach Rickey Bustle held his weekly media luncheon Monday afternoon at the Cox Communications Athletic Center. Louisiana (1-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) hosts Florida Atlantic (3-3, 2-0 Sun Belt) in the 62nd Annual Homecoming Game Saturday at Cajun Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Saturday, the Cajuns were unable to contain Arkansas State quarterback Corey Leonard, who set a school record with five touchdown passes, while totaling 359 yards of total offense. Running back Reggie Arnold ran for a career-best 225 yards to lead the Indians to a 52-21 triumph over Louisiana in Jonesboro, Ark.
Michael Desormeaux (New Iberia, La.) led the Cajuns rushing attack with 74 yards on nine carries and a touchdown, while Jason Chery (Delray Beach, Fla.) recorded a career-high 101 receiving yards.
Saturday's game will mark the third meeting between the schools. Last season, Louisiana defeated Florida Atlantic 6-0 on a nationally-televised game broadcast on ESPN2 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. In FAU's only other trip to Lafayette, the Owls tripped up the Cajuns 28-10 in 2005.
Louisiana is 36-23-2 (.607) all-time in Homecoming games, winning four of its last six. Last season, Middle Tennessee snapped UL's brief two-game Homecoming winning streak, defeating UL 34-20 on Oct. 28, 2006.
Following this weekend's game with FAU, Louisiana will have a much-needed open date next week before traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, Nov. 3.
