Lafayette- Despite cold, rainy conditions, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team swept Alcorn State 7-0 in their 2007 season opener at Cajun Courts.

 

In singles action, the Cajuns posted straight set sweeps in all six matchups.

 

Senior Tammy Day defeated Alcorn State's Swetha Devarj 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot, while freshman Myrthe Molvenveld defeated Stephania Guzman at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1.

 

Senior Chanell Meijer won in the No. 3 position over Martina Garda 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Clemence Remy defeated Avernelle Holder 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot.

 

Sophomore Laura Martelli defeated Felicia Chen 6-1, 6-0 at No.5, while sophomore Angela Dangond defeated Sarah Peters 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 position.

 

In doubles action, the Cajuns also swept Alcorn State in all three matches.

 

Day and Meijer won at No. 1 over Peters and Guzman 8-1. Molenveld and Remy defeated Holder and Garda 8-0 in the No. 2 spot, and senior Kimmie Lyles and Dangond defeated Devarj and Chen 8-3 at the No. 3 position.

 

The Cajuns will travel to Baton Rouge to face instate rival Louisiana State on Saturday, Jan. 27. Matches begin at 2:00 p.m.
