Ragin' Cajuns Power Past Nicholls State, 10-2

The Cajuns took advantage of a six-run third inning to down the Colonels.
THIBODAUX, La.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns (3-1) baseball team hit the road for their first road game of the year and came back a 10-2 winner over in-state rival Nicholls State (3-8).
The Cajuns collected more than 10 hits in a game for the second straight game. Six UL players had multiple hits in the game.
Sophomore Jonathan Lucroy collected two hits on the evening including his second home run of the season. Lucroy drove in three of the Cajuns runs and also drew a base on balls.
Grant Derouen also had three RBI on the night collecting a pair of hits.
Jameson Parker led the Cajuns with three hits reaching base safely five times on the night.
The Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff held the Nicholls State batters at bay.
Starting pitcher Buddy Glass collected his first win of the season allowing just two runs, no earned runs. The sophomore hurler pitched 7.0 innings, striking out seven and walking only one.
Jason Fernandez and Gregory Harmon both pitched one inning allowing no runs in relief.
With the score tied 1-1, the Cajuns used a six run third inning to take a commanding lead over the Colonels and never looked back.
John McCarthy led off the third inning with a single to second base. The senior from Palos Park, Ill., advanced to second on a wild pitch. Parker reached safely after bunting the ball down the left field line. Lucroy doubled down the leftfield line to plate McCarthy and Parker. Jefferies Tatford bunted for a single to advance Lucroy to third. Derouen continued the inning singling through the left side scoring Lucroy. Designated hitter Tim Santiago doubled to left field to score Derouen and Tatford. Santiago scored as Devon Bourque singled to right center to conclude the scoring for the Cajuns.
The Cajuns would add a pair of runs in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth to round out the scoring.
The Cajuns will return to action on Wednesday, March 1 to take on McNeese State in a game being made up do to inclement weather on Feb. 21. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
