Cajuns Set to Host No. 2 Arizona Over Easter Weekend

LAFAYETTE It's an opportunity that fans won't want to miss.

The 11th-ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team (22-5) will host No. 2 Arizona (24-2) Friday-Sunday, March 25-27, 2005 at Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park. It's a mid-season pairing of two programs that are contenders for a berth in the 2005 Women's College World Series.

Arizona is making its first trip to Lafayette since participating in the 11th Annual Louisiana Classics held during the 1997 season. The Wildcats hold the all-time series lead 12-3, but the Ragin' Cajuns had the last laugh when they eliminated UA from the Tucson Regional last season.

Special promotions are being offered for the entire weekend as the Ragin' Cajuns look to "Pack the Park" to create a unique atmosphere for this special series.

PROMOTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND SET:

The entire weekend is being billed as “Pack the Park Night”. Each night the fans being asked to come out in full force as the Ragin' Cajuns attempt to break the park attendance record of 1,729 set on April 18, 2001 against LSU. The official capacity, according to Cajundome Ticket Office manifests, is 2,032.

Other promotions include:

Friday – T-Shirt Night sponsored by UL Athletics

Saturday – Service Chevrolet Cap Night

Sunday – Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Alumni Association at 10 a.m./Pennant Day

THE REMATCH:

Louisiana-Lafayette eliminated Arizona from the NCAA Regional in Tucson last season with a 5-0 win behind the bats of Danyele Gomez and Holly Tankersley and the pitching of Brooke Mitchell. The Ragin' Cajuns eliminated UA from the tournament, held in Tucson, Ariz., at UA's own Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, and became directly responsible for the Wildcats not advancing to the Women's College World Series for the first time since 1987.

Local fans can listen to the coverage of Saturday and Sunday's games via the radio. Saturday's game will be aired on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-KPEL AM. Sunday's game will be broadcast on KROF-960 AM.
