LAFAYETTE, La. - No. 2 seed Florida International made it 4-for-5 against Middle Tennessee, as the Golden Panthers came back with a 2-1 win over the Lady Raiders in Sun Belt Softball Championships action Thursday at Lady Cajun Park.

The Golden Panthers (30-32) got the win despite tallying just two hits. FIU took advantage of four MT errors in advancing to Friday's 4 p.m. winner's bracket contest against the UL Lafayette-North Texas winner.

Cindy Turek went 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a walk to lead the offense. The Golden Panthers also got a stellar pitching performance from left-hander Amanda Nealer (12-11). The junior tossed a complete-game three-hitter while striking out five.

The effort helped FIU take its fourth win in five contests with the Lady
Raiders (32-22).

MT's Brittany Herald (4-3) took the hard-luck loss despite giving up just
one earned run and one hit in 5 1/3 innings. MT, which defeated New Mexico State 3-0 earlier Thursday, will now face Western Kentucky in Friday's 11 a.m. elimination game.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE HEAD COACH CINDY CONNELEY
“We played well enough to win, but it was a tough loss with four errors. Now we have to fight our way back.”

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL HEAD COACH KIM GWYDIR
“I was very proud of the way Amanda pitched. It wasn't her best game, but she pitched tough when we needed her to.”

“We got timely hits from Cindy Turek and Tabitha Embry. We'll just take them one game at a time and see where we go from here.”
