LAFAYETTE, La. - No. 3 seed Middle Tennessee got the
2004 Sun Belt
Conference Softball Championships started with a 3-0
win over No. 6 New Mexico State Thursday at Lady Cajun
Park.
Angie Huebner gave MT (32-21) all the offense it
needed with a solo home run, and Sun Belt Newcomer of
the Year Crystal Bobo tossed a three-hit shutout
as the Lady Raiders advanced to this afternoon's 4
p.m. game against No. 2 Florida International.
NMSU All-Sun Belt performer Veronica Owens led the
Aggies with a hit and a walk. Jennifer Brike (5-28)
took the loss after allowing three runs and six
hits in 3 2/3 innings. The Aggies will play at 1:30
p.m. Friday against a team to be determined.
Huebner broke a second-inning scoreless tie with a
line-drive home run over the left field wall.
The Lady Raiders added two more runs in the fourth,
keyed by an RBI-bunt single Melissa Weiland.

NEW MEXICO STATE HEAD COACH KATHY RODOLPH
“The first home run they hit really put us on our
heels. At the beginning of
the game, we came out with an opportunity to get on
them early, but
base-running errors killed our momentum.”
“We were forced to play catch-up the rest of the game.
There's really no
room for error in a tournament setting when you have
to play that way.”
MIDDLE TENNESSEE HEAD COACH CINDY CONNELLEY
“I really thought that Angie Huebner broke the game
open. When Bobo came in
and settled down, she really took command of the game.
“We're looking at a possible one-game series here due
to the weather, and we
are just trying to stay in the winner's bracket.”
