LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team wasn't able to get out of the first inning of game one in Saturday's doubleheader with Western Kentucky before rain showers began falling and wiped out the day's action.

Louisiana-Lafayette (45-6, 11-0 Sun Belt) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out home run by second baseman Brittany Bryant.

The game was delayed after Bryant's home run when lightning struck in the area at 1:27 p.m.

After waiting for 5 hours, 43 minutes, game officials deemed that the rain wouldn't stop in time to finish the game in a suitable amount of time which would have left ample time to start a second one.

Play will resume Sunday at Noon with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and Louisiana-Lafayette's Lacey Bertucci at the plate. All stats will remain intact with Louisiana-Lafayette holding a 3-1 lead.

Following the completion of Saturday's first game, a doubleheader will be played as regularly scheduled.

No games will be started after 7 p.m.

In other Sun Belt action Saturday, Florida International (25-30, 7-7 Sun Belt) swept a doubleheader from Middle Tennessee (30-16, 10-4 Sun Belt) 5-4, 1-0 to give the Ragin' Cajuns a four-game lead over MT in the loss column in the league standings.
