Tankersley Named LSWA Hitter of the Week

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball player Holly Tankersley added another weekly honor Tuesday when the Louisiana Sports Writers Association named her Hitter of the Week for her performance in the eighth-ranked Cajuns sweep of Northwestern State last Wednesday.

Tankersley, named Sun Belt Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday, was rewarded with the first LSWA honor of her career.

Tankersley had a perfect night at the plate in the Cajuns doubleheader sweep of Northwestern State going 5-for-5 as the freshman utility player reached base on all seven at bats as she drew two walks without a strikeout. The Kirbyville, Texas, native scored two runs and drove in two as well.

Tankersley was 4-for-4 with two RBI in the second game including bringing home Hillary Guidry with the winning run in the top of the first inning. Her performance at the plate raised her batting average 35 points from .330 to .365.

She has gone the last three games without a strikeout and is hitting .667 (8-for-12) in the Ragin' Cajuns last four outings.

No. 8 Louisiana-Lafayette opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend as the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for a four-game series with New Mexico State Saturday,-Sunday, April 10-11.
