The right-handed infielder from Diboll High School is currently hitting .344 for the Ladyjacks with four home runs and 19 RBI. She has hit eight career home runs and was a member of the All-District 20-3A First Team the past two seasons.
Warren earned distinction as Team MVP in 2002 and 2003 and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2001.
She has played first and third for DHS and helped lead the Ladyjacks to a bi-district championship last season.
“Heather is a perfect fit for our program – hard worker, great student, comes from an awesome family and has all the athletic tools,” Lotief said. “She is strong, smart and loves the intricacies of the game.”
In a recent performance this season, Warren went 4-for-4 with two singles, one double, one home run and three RBI in a contest against Aledo High School.
A member of the National Honor Society at DHS, Warren plans to major in journalism at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Her mother played college basketball at South Alabama.
“I am so excited about being a Ragin' Cajun,” Warren said. “What a great opportunity to chase my dreams of getting a college education and playing for one of the best softball teams in the country.”
Her signing gives Lotief six student athletes signed up for the 2005 season. UL Lafayette added Acadiana natives Karli Hubbard of Comeaux High School, Codi Runyan of Port Barre High School, Deserea Griffin (Benton, La.), Kelsey Cammarata (Katy, Texas) and Jessica Lemoine (Bridge City, Texas) during the early signing period.
“We are extremely excited about this recruiting class,” Lotief said. “They are all great kids from great families who are great athletes. The future of this program is in good hands.”
