LAFAYETTE
– Louisiana-Lafayette junior pitcher Brooke Mitchell has
been selected the Louisiana Softball Pitcher of the
Month, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers
Association on Tuesday.
Mitchell has recorded a 14-1 record to start the season with a 0.35 earned run average and 195 strikeouts.
For the month, she surrendered just 32 hits and five earned runs through 100 1/3 innings in 16 appearances. Opponents hit a paltry .099 against her.
The three-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, she has recorded five no-hitters this season including back-to-back no-no's against Nevada last weekend at the McNeese Cowgirl Classic.
In just over 100 innings of work, she has recorded 195 strikeouts, including 12 double-figure strikeout performances, moving her into second place in the Ragin' Cajuns career strikeout list with 638 strikeouts trailing only Kyla Hall's 820 strikeouts from 1991-94.
In the second no-hitter of Nevada last weekend, she posted a school-record 22 strikeouts in the nine-inning affair.
In one her most dominating performances of the season, the junior came on in relief against Southeastern Louisiana Feb. 21 to toss six innings of work, striking out 15 of the 19 batters she faced. Later that day she came back and tossed a no-hitter against Big 12-member Missouri.
