Cajuns Declared Champions of ULM Mardi Gras Classic

The ninth-ranked Cajuns (3-1) finished in a three-way tie with Georgia Tech and Kentucky, but won the tiebreaker on run differential. UL Lafayette racked up 37 runs in four tournament contests.
Mitchell
(2-1) finished the tournament with a 0.78 earned run
average allowing just two earned runs in three starts.
The Pasadena, Texas, native completed the tournament
with 33 strikeouts for an average of 11 per game and
walked just six batters.
In the Cajuns final game of the tournament she struck out 12 and pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout as UL Lafayette topped in-state rival ULM 10-0.
Brittany Bryant, Lacey Bertucci and Holly Tankersley joined Mitchell as members of the All-Tournament team.
Bryant
(right) led all Cajun hitters with a .455 average
cranking out two doubles and two home runs while driving
in six runs.
She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and home run in the ULM win.
The Beaumont, Texas, native also drew a team-best six walks and sported a 1.182 slugging percentage.
Bertucci
(left) ended the weekend with a .417 batting average and
was tied with Bryant with a team-best five base hits.
Her first hit of her career was a home run in the top of the second inning against Kentucky.
Tankersley (lower right) got it done both at the plate and in the circle.
The
freshman out of Kirbyville, Texas, hit .333 with a home
run and a double.
In the circle she pitched the Cajuns to the win over Gardner-Webb, tossing six innings and allowing just four hits and two earned runs.
No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette returns to action Friday, Feb. 13 for its home opener scheduled for 4:15 p.m. against McNeese State. The game is the first of five for the Cajuns over the weekend during the 18th Annual Louisiana Classics tournament being held at the Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
